The roads subject to the proposed 40mph speed limit are generally narrow, rural roads containing field accesses, private driveways and public rights of way. Restricted visibility is a common feature, often due to the road geometry or presence of steep banks or roadside vegetation and these features present a potential hazard to all road users.
The purpose of this proposal is to avoid danger to persons or other traffic using the road, by reducing the speed limit and providing a consistent approach throughout the area. These proposals will be complimented by measures in Norfolk to extend the proposed 40mph speed limits beyond the county boundary and into the parishes of Belton with Browston and Hopton-on-Sea.
Suffolk County Council proposes to make the above order for Oulton Division under Section 84 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which would be to reduce the speed limit from national speed limit to 40 mph on:
