Suffolk’s Environmental Ask

How our suppliers can work with us to meet Suffolk’s Environmental Ask

The Environmental Ask is currently being audited as part of the Council’s environmental policy review.

In 2019, Suffolk’s Local Authorities declared a climate emergency and committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from their operations and services as well as working with partners in support of the aim of a net zero Suffolk by 2030.

Suffolk’s Local Authorities have jointly adopted this Ask in order to improve the environmental impact of our procurement of goods, services and works. When purchasing goods, services and works we will evaluate the environmental response of bidders for our contracts.

In July 2026, Suffolk County Council rescinded its Climate Emergency declaration. All SCC environmental policies are undergoing a review in light of the new administration’s priorities. The council remains committed to the protection and enhancement of Suffolk’s natural environment and recognises the need to mitigate and adapt to the threats posed by climate change. The council also recognises the benefits to local businesses of a joint approach across Suffolk’s authorities.
