At 13:30, following receipt of a malicious communication, Suffolk Police requested the presence of Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service at Suffolk One Sixth Form College, Scrivener Drive, Ipswich.
Two fire appliances and a duty officer were sent as a precaution to assist police to implement safe systems of work.
Upon arrival, college staff had already evacuated the building.
The surrounding road networks were closed and managed by Suffolk Highways and the police.
Following a comprehensive search of the building by the police and explosive detection dogs, the communication was declared a hoax.
Appliances left the scene at around 16:50 but roads remained closed into the evening.
Police are working to identify the perpetrator.
