Fire at waste and recycling processing centre in Haverhill

A large fire has broken out at a waste and recycling processing centre in Falconer Road in Haverhill. 6 fire engines, an aerial ladder and two water carriers are in use to tackle the blaze. Approximately 400 tonnes of building waste is align in the contained building.

Due to smoke from the site, people living close by are advised to keep doors and windows closed.

Firefighters are making good progress tackling the fire, and machinery from the site is being used to move waste away. Due to large volumes of smoke coming from the fire, we are reiterating our advice to keep doors and window closed.

Firefighters continue to make good progress, with the help of staff from the facility using heavy plant machinery to move material away from the fire. Crews are dampening down the removed material to prevent the fire from spreading.

A good water supply is in place and smoke is lifting slightly, but heading towards residential areas so our advice to keep doors and windows closed remains in place.

The fire is now out and crews have left the scene. The site will be reinspected later this evening. In total, 29 crews from across Suffolk attended the scene over the 17-hour incident. This includes crews on fire engines, water carriers and an aerial ladder.

Residents can now open their doors and windows. We are very grateful for your support throughout this incident.
