A cow was safely recovered by firefighters after it became stuck in mud up to its shoulders.

The alarm was raised at 1.05pm on Saturday September 12 after the heifer was seen to be in trouble in a field at Ixworth, near Bury St Edmunds.

Two appliances from Bury St Edmunds along with a Unimog multi-purpose vehicle and a fire engine from Princes Street in Ipswich and one fire engine from Thetford in Norfolk were sent to the scene.

The field was cleared of other livestock while the animal was safely pulled clear of the mud and a Stop message declaring the incident under control was issued at 2.47pm.
