Parking guidance

Guidance for parking in new developments and changes to parking in existing developments.

The Suffolk Guidance for Parking technical guidance document replaced the Suffolk Advisory Parking Standards (2002) following public consultation in November 2014.

In 2015, 2019 and 2023, the document was updated to reflect updated government guidance and policies.

You should use the guidance for the planning of developments, which are:

  • New
  • Have been extended
  • Have changed use

Local planning authorities will take this guidance into account when determining planning applications.

However, the above guidance is only one factor used by the Local Planning Authorities when reviewing and determining planning applications. Parking provisions will be considered alongside existing local policy and all other material planning considerations.
