Organised by Suffolk County Council in partnership with Volunteering Matters, the event brought together young people to explore the issues that matter most to them and develop ideas for making Suffolk a better place to live, learn and work.

Throughout the day, young people took part in workshops and discussions covering topics including mental health, wellbeing, community connections and opportunities for the future.

The event was supported by partners from Suffolk County Council, Volunteering Matters, #iWill Ambassadors, University of Suffolk, Northgate High School sixth form and the business community.

The hackathon builds on the themes of Suffolk’s 2025 Annual Public Health Report, which, for the first time, was shaped by the experiences and ideas of young people across the county.

The report highlighted the importance of giving young people a stronger voice in decisions that affect their lives and recognised the role youth social action can play in improving health, wellbeing and reducing inequalities.

Cllr June Mummery, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for coastal affairs, communities and public health, said:

“Young people have told us they want to be listened to and involved in decisions that affect their lives. This event gave them the opportunity to share their experiences, discuss the challenges they face and put forward ideas for change.

"It’s fantastic to see so many young people taking part and speaking so passionately about the future of their communities."

Feedback and ideas gathered during the day will help inform future work with young people across Suffolk and support partners in turning the report's recommendations into action.
