The celebration, which will take place on 27 November 2026 during National Care Leavers Month, aims to give Suffolk’s care leavers the opportunity to enjoy a special evening of dancing, entertainment and celebration.
Many young people who have spent time in care may not had the chance to experience a traditional school prom or similar milestone event.
The Winter Ball offers an opportunity to celebrate their achievements and recognise their journey into adulthood.
However, to help make the event possible, organisers are appealing for donations of:
- Prom dresses
- Suits and formalwear
- Shoes and accessories
- Financial contributions through a fundraising campaign
- Support from local businesses and community organisations
Funds raised will help cover event costs including venue hire, refreshments and decorations.
Cllr Simon Aalders, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Suffolk County Council said:
“This is going to be a truly wonderful occasion and one which is a highlight of the year for those young people and our staff.
“The generosity shown by Suffolk people never fails to impress, and I hope we can rally enough support to give our care leavers the best event yet. We want every young person who attends to feel special, supported and celebrated.”
Donations of clothing and accessories can be dropped off at the Info Bar, Constantine House, Ipswich, IP1 2DX.
