Large fire in the open - smoke visible from 6 miles away

Crews from Bungay, Halesworth and Leiston are on scene at a large field fire involving standing crop, and are being supported by Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service crews from Harleston and Diss. 

Resources in use include a water carrier from Leiston, breathing apparatus, and hose reel jets. 

Firefighters have managed to surround the fire and are working hard to prevent it spreading to the remaining crop in the 30-acre field and nearby hedgerows. 

Update (3:40pm) 

UK Power Networks has been informed and are en route. 

Good progress being made by crews, who are using hose reel jets and beaters to dampen down. 

The fire has consumed around 6 acres of stubble and approximately 400m of hedgerow.
