Flat fire in Bury St Edmunds

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service was called to a domestic fire at a flat in Mermaid Close, Bury St Edmunds, shortly after 9.10am on Sunday 23 August.

On arrival, firefighters discovered a fire in the bathroom of a ground floor flat within a two-storey residential block. As there was no response from within the property and concerns for occupant safety, crews forced entry to gain access.

Firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke from the property. Crews also carried out precautionary checks of the flat above.

No occupants were found inside the property and the fire was extinguished quickly. Firefighters remained on scene while attempts were made to contact the resident.

The stop message was received at 9.35am.
