Firefighters tackled a large blaze in the storage area of a school near Stowmarket.

The incident occurred at Finborough School in Great Finborough around 6pm last night, with plumes of smoke reported as being seen up to two miles away,

On arrival firefighters found a Portakabin was well alight, with adjoining storage containers also affected.

The area is used by the school for storing materials including LPG camping gas cylinders and petrol-operated machinery.

Firefighters used two hose-reel jets and a covering jet to extinguish the fire.

The area was evacuated and there are no reported casualties.

A Stop notice was issued by firefighters at the scene at 8.07pm. Crews remained to dampen down but all left the scene by 9.50pm.

A re-inspection of the site took place this morning (Wednesday July 1) and the incident was declared closed at 6.13am. The cause of the fire is still being established.

A total of four fire engine - from Princes Street in Ipswich, Needham Market, Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds - attended the incident.
