Field fire in Drinkstone

Multiple fire crews attended a large field fire in Drinkstone, measuring approx 16 hectares of farmland, hedges and paddocks. 

At the incident's height, 40 firefighters were in attendance, including specialist equipment which the service uses to fight wildfires. 

Crews have worked hard to stop the fire spreading to nearby properties and support owners to move horses out of harm's way. Eight hose reel jets and beaters are in use to bring the fire under control. 

Police also attended to support with traffic management.

Update (6pm)

Good progress is being made. Three hectares of grassland remain alight. The local farmer is supporting by ploughing a fire break. Hose reel jets and beaters continue to be used to tackle the blaze. 

No one has been injured. 

Update (7pm)

Crews are now dampening down and hotspots remain. A Unimog (off-road fire vehicle) and hose reel jet are still being used.
