Crop fire, Hawstead

Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service was called at 12.57 to a report of a large crop fire in a field in Whepstead Lane, Hawstead.

On arrival crews found a field of wheat well alight.

At the height of the fire six appliances - from Stowmarket, Sudbury, Long Melford, Haverhill, Newmarket and Thetford - plus an operational support unit from Haverhill were in attendance.

The fire was soon brought under control, allowing attendance to be reduced.

A stop notice was issued at 1.50pm.
