Crews mobilised to extinguish fire that led to power cut

A standard fire appliance and an enhanced rescue tender were mobilised to a substation fire in Bury St Edmunds. 

The incident resulted in the interruption of power to 593 customers, with the majority restored within minutes. 

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, along with a second, smaller fire in an adjacent disused storage area.

Engineers from UK Power Networks worked with crews to make the equipment safe. 

One male casualty was assessed at the scene before being conveyed to hospital by ambulance with burn injuries.

A stop was called at 12:25pm.
