Crews mobilised to fight fire in the open

Caller into fire control stated that black smoke could be seen at a distance. Upon arrival, crews were faced with 100m x 100m of undergrowth that was well alight. 

By 1:24pm, firefighters had the fire surrounded and were using an extended hose reel jet and beaters to tackle the blaze. 

At 1:39pm, crews reported that good progress is being made. Two extended hose reel jets currently in use. 

Additional water being provided by a Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service water carrier from Newmarket. 

Update (2:24pm)

The incident has been scaled back to two fire appliances and the water carrier. 

Update (10am 28/7/26)

The stop message was given at 3:25pm yesterday, signifying that no additional resources were required on scene. 

A re-inspection was scheduled for 7pm but wasn't required due to a crew from Brandon being mobilised to attend to an area of smouldering patches of undergrowth. 

The incident was closed at 7:06pm.
