Redmere Wind Farm

Find information about the NSIP project promoted by Swedish State owned Vattenfall (who operate 6 onshore windfarms in the UK).

Redmere is a proposed Onshore Wind Farm NSIP of up to 32 turbines (300MW), with a tip height of up to 220 meters, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

The proposed development would be located on the border of Suffolk (which may receive up to 8 Turbines), Norfolk and Cambridgeshire. It would be located on agricultural land 7km north-west of Lakenheath and 10km north-east of Ely.

Current Stage within the NSIP Process

The Planning Act 2008 sets out seven stages for NSIPs. Redmere's key stages are below

  1. Initial Public Consultation

    Redmere held three consultation events jointly with its sister project, Chatteris, in Feltwell, Mepal and Ely on 13, 14 and 15 October respectively. Those events introduced Vattenfall and the proposed Chatteris and Redmere wind farm projects to the public to capture feedback which would enhance Vattenfall's understanding of local priorities, opportunities and issues.

     

    Further Public Consultation

    A further round of public consultation is anticipated to begin between January and March 2027. 

     

  2. The Application for Redmere to PINS is anticipated in the Autumn of 2027, but subject to change by the project promoter.
