The new zones in Leona Crescent, Famona Road, Meadow Way, Beverley Court and Beaumont Road cover 137 households and take Suffolk to a significant milestone, with 400 No Cold Calling Zones now in place across the county.

More than 18,000 households across Suffolk are now covered by the scheme, which helps deter rogue traders and other unwanted callers.

The five zones were nominated by a Suffolk Trading Standards Officer, who identified residents in the area as being potentially vulnerable to doorstep crime and would benefit from the additional protection the scheme provides.

No Cold Calling Zones are created with the support of local residents and send a clear message that uninvited traders are not welcome. Residents receive information packs and door stickers, while signs are installed to raise awareness and discourage unwanted callers.

Cllr June Mummery, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for coastal affairs, communities and public health, said:

“Everyone should be able to feel safe and secure in their own home, without worrying about unwanted pressure on their doorstep.

“Most traders are honest and hardworking, but there are still some crooks out there who try to take advantage of people's trust and good nature. No Cold Calling Zones help deter that behaviour by making it clear that uninvited callers are not welcome.

“I’d like to thank the residents, Suffolk Trading Standards, Suffolk Police and everyone else involved in making this happen. These schemes only work because communities get behind them and look out for one another.

“If you're planning to have work done at home, don't feel pressured into making a decision on the doorstep. Take your time, get a few quotes, ask people you trust for recommendations, and check Suffolk Trusted Trader to find businesses that have been vetted and approved."

A No Cold Calling Zone is a nominated area where residents collectively state that they do not want uninvited traders calling at their homes. Zones can be established in response to reports of doorstep crime or where a community may be more vulnerable to rogue traders and other unwanted callers.
