Suffolk County Council’s Adult Social Care service again rated Good by Care Quality Commission.

Following an assessment by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Suffolk County Council has again been awarded an overall rating of “Good” for the quality of its Adult Social Care services.

CQC’s assessment looks at how councils meet their duties under the Care Act (2014) and focuses on how local authorities work with people, provide support, ensure safety, and demonstrate leadership.

In its report, CQC highlights a number of areas of strength in Suffolk, including “committed and compassionate staff”, strong partnership working with health colleagues, and “good multi‑agency working to keep people safe.” The report also recognises a “positive culture of learning and continuous improvement”, alongside the council’s strengths-based approach, its focus on helping people remain independent, and its use of digital technology to support people safely in their own homes.

Whilst the report is very positive overall, CQC has identified some areas where improvements are needed, including reducing waiting times in parts of the system and ensuring reviews are consistently person-centred. The council is already taking forward work to address these areas and will continue to strengthen services.

Councillor Philip Faircloth-Mutton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care at Suffolk County Council said:

I am really pleased that Suffolk has again been rated as Good. This reflects the strength of our Adult Social Care service and the ongoing dedication and professionalism of the fantastic staff we have; I want to thank them all for their hard work. I know Adult Social Care is a highly complex service that depends on strong relationships, experienced staff and consistent professionalism to deliver for residents every day. I believe it is important that we do not put that progress at risk by breaking up established high‑performing services into new and unproven council structures. Maintaining stability is key to continuing to deliver good outcomes for the people of Suffolk.
