The challenge will take place on 27 September and comes after colleagues' successful fundraising effort in last year's event, when they completed the course carrying a stretcher loaded with a weighted rescue dummy.
This year, participants will work together to carry a triple extension fire service ladder weighing 30kg around the entire route, with some team members taking on the challenge in full firefighting kit.
The unique fundraiser will test their teamwork and endurance while raising money for a cause close to the hearts of fire service employees and their families.
Training for last year's challenge attracted overwhelming support from local communities, with motorists beeping their horns in encouragement and members of the public stopping to wave, cheer and wish the team well as they passed by. The team hopes to receive the same fantastic backing this year.
The team is raising funds for the Fire Fighters Charity, which provides physical, mental and practical support to serving and retired members of the fire and rescue service community, as well as their families.
Commenting on the decision to support the Fire Fighters Charity, Chief Fire Officer at SFRS, Jon Lacey who has already signed up to take part, said:
"Last year's challenge showed just how determined and supportive our people are, and I know this year's team will be just as committed. Carrying a 30kg ladder round a half marathon certainly won't be easy, but that's all part of the challenge.
"The Fire Fighters Charity does incredible work supporting people across the fire and rescue service when they need help, whether that's with their physical health, mental wellbeing or recovery after difficult times. It's a charity that's touched the lives of many people in our fire service family, which is why we're proud to support it.
"I'm looking forward to taking part alongside my colleagues, and we'd be very grateful for any support people can give, whether that's making a donation or cheering the team on around the course."
