Suffolk Highways update on A143 Stanton road surface issues
We recognise the continued frustration and inconvenience that the ongoing road surface issues on the A143 at Stanton are causing for motorists, local residents and businesses, and we understand the concerns that have been raised.
Following a further review of the situation, Suffolk Highways is to undertake temporary repairs to the most severely affected sections of the carriageway during an overnight road closure on Saturday October 31.
These works are intended to improve the condition of the road whilst longer-term investigations into the cause of the problem continue.
We have secured road space between 8pm on Saturday to 5am on Sunday, but our teams are only expected to require a full closure for a few hours within that period to complete the repairs.
Signs saying "Road unsuitable for diversion traffic" will be installed on nearby local roads to discourage through-traffic from using unsuitable routes.
We will also carry out further testing, including taking core samples from affected areas of the carriageway, to establish why the road surface continues to deteriorate and to identify the most effective long-term solution.
We will provide further details, including timings and any traffic management arrangements, once these investigations have been scheduled.
The findings from these investigations will then be used to develop a future programme of further works.
Once arrangements and dates have been confirmed, we will ensure local communities, elected members and road users are kept informed.
We appreciate the patience of those affected whilst this work is undertaken and we do understand the frustration people feel over this issue. We are working as hard as we can to reach a solution.
