Financial assessments

If you're receiving adult social care services, you need to complete a financial assessment so we can work out what you might need to pay towards your care.

How it works

We will ask you to complete a financial assessment, which tells us how much, if anything, you need to pay towards your care. If you choose not to complete a financial assessment you will be charged as a full cost paying customer.

If you're not currently receiving social care services, and want to get an estimate of what you might need to contribute to your care costs, please use our Care Cost Calculator.

You can complete an electronic Financial Assessment using our Suffolk Adult Care Portal.

Suffolk County Council are not responsible for the arrangement or funding of NHS Continuing Healthcare (NHS CHC) and NHS-funded nursing care (FNC). If you require further information on these, you can find out more information on gov.uk

Completing the form online is quicker and easier. However, we can also accept a paper version of your assessment. You can ask the person helping you arrange your care and support to provide you with a copy.

What happens next?

Once we've received your fully completed form and all of the other information that we need, we’ll normally complete the financial assessment within 28 days.

After completing your review, you will receive a financial outcome letter letting you know:

  • how much you'll need to pay towards your care and support services
  • how we've worked this out
  • how to arrange payments

If you have been self-funding your care and now require a financial assessment, please also ensure you have had a care needs assessment with Adult Social Care in the last 3 months.

If you do not, or if your situation and support areas have changed during those 3 months, you will also need to refer yourself for a new care needs assessment at the same time as completing your financial assessment referral.
