Direct payments and personalisation approach

Information about Suffolk County Council’s approach to direct payments and personalisation for those who self-manage and direct their care and support needs.

We’re making it easier for people in Suffolk to choose and manage the support that works for them - with clearer information, a simpler process and more flexible options like Direct Payments and (in future) Individual Service Funds. This approach was co-designed with people who use our services, families and carers, staff and providers in Adult Social Care, with support from partners including ACE Anglia and Suffolk User Forum.

The approach is built around four key objectives, written from the perspective of the person receiving support:

  • You will have clear, easy to understand, accessible, and timely information about direct payments, individual service funds, and other personalisation options
  • You will access direct payments and individual service funds through a clear and simple process
  • You will have access to the right support to help you use your direct payment/ individual service fund
  • You will have more options and more flexibility to meet your care and support needs through your direct payment/individual service fund
