Firefighters have been mobilised to investigate reports of smoke inside Clopton Village Hall, which is being used as a polling station.
Public advised via social media not to travel to the hall until crews announce it is safe to do so.
10:20am - Crews have reported no sign of fire but are investigating the source of the smoke. Stop called to incident.
Update (11:16am 7/5/26)
At 10:23am, crews changed their report of no sign of fire to fire out on arrival. The most probable cause of which was the boiler.
Crews no longer on scene.
Update (12:25pm 7/5/26)
We can confirm there was an incident with the gas boiler, so staff evacuated all present.
Crews attended and brought the polling equipment out to allow the staff to continue to issue ballot papers from the back of a car. They would not allow them to go back into the station until a gas engineer had confirmed that it was safe to do so.
A gas engineer arrived and declared the building safe, so they relocated to the village hall again.
It’s been up and operating for some time now and all is well.
