Suffolk’s local transport plan

Information about the upcoming consultation for Suffolk's transport plan.

We are in the process of updating the local transport plan. This is a statutory document that sets out the transport needs, challenges and priorities for Suffolk in the medium- to long-term.

The purpose of this document is to help shape the future of transport in Suffolk and to identify future transport schemes, developments and priority areas. It allows us to direct resources to deliver a transport network that meets the future needs of people who live and work in Suffolk, ensuring all have access to the facilities needed to go about their daily lives.

Being developed alongside the local transport plan refresh is a series of area transport plans which will have more in-depth focus on a local vicinity whilst being influenced by the overarching local transport plan.

The consultation document provides a high-level summary of the aspirations and objectives we hope to achieve. There is also a link to a survey, to give us your views on this upcoming document and ensure it captures the challenges you face with Suffolk’s transport network.

Your opinion matters

The third local transport plan was adopted in 2011 and runs until 2031. The time is right to refresh this document, to take into account subsequent significant changes such as increased housing growth, a pandemic, and fundamental changes to the way people commute and the frequency of their travels.

This consultation has been designed to seek your opinions at an early stage and allow you to influence the new Local Transport Plan’s development to shape the infrastructure and provision of transport for the future. The consultation is particularly interested in understanding your thoughts on the four key themes being proposed, these are outlined and explained within the document.

How to have your say

  • review the consultation document
  • complete the survey
  • should you require an alternative format, or language or need assistance with the filling in of the survey please contact: 0345 603 1842 or email Suffolk.LTP@Suffolk.gov.uk

Next steps

The consultation goes live on 12 February 2024 and will run for 8 weeks. Once the consultation has closed, we will collate and analyse all feedback received and will consider this as we develop the draft document.

Once we have developed a draft local transport plan there will be further opportunities for you to share your views on the main draft document during a more detailed public consultation.

It is anticipated this will be published in Autumn 2024. The detailed consultation will include the first full draft of the new local transport plan and the area transport plans along with a list of key projects and interventions.
