Vehicle fire in staff car park at residential care home

Crews from Long Melford and Clare were mobilised to attend a vehicle fire at a residential care home in Glemsford. 

The vehicle, a hybrid car, was well alight on arrival. It had been on charge in the staff car park at the rear of the building. Thankfully, although close to the main building, the structure was not affected.  

Staff and residents had evacuated prior to the crews' arrival. 

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and cool the car's battery. 

The incident was stopped at 11:22am but is yet to be closed.
