Two appliances from Ipswich East and one from Princes Street were mobilised in the early hours of the morning to attend a domestic building fire. The occupants of the property, who had been alerted to the fire by smoke alarms in their home, were unable to escape the blaze, leaving them trapped in the upstairs of the two-storey house.
Crews used breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, a covering jet and a 9m ladder to rescue the two occupants and their pet dog. Positive pressure ventilation was also used to help remove smoke and toxins from the building.
Both occupants were conveyed to hospital.
A control operator remained in constant contact with the occupant who had called in the incident, until they were able to communicate directly with firefighters once they had gained entry to the property.
A stop was called at 04:39 but one appliance has remained on scene to check for hot spots using a thermal imaging camera.
An investigation will be conducted to establish the cause of the fire, and a police cordon will remain in place until later today.
