Closed
Location: The Old Stables, The Street, Wissett
05 May 2026
Time: 10:20am
Incident type: Animal rescue
Attending stations: Wrentham, Lowestoft South

Upon arrival, firefighters used a submersible pump to lower the water level while waiting for a vet to arrive.

A Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service swift water rescue technician worked with firefighters to formulate a rescue plan.

At 12:43pm, using a Unimog and straps from Lowestoft South, the horse was successfully lifted from the water and placed into the care of the vet and its owners. A Unimog is a robust all-terrain vehicle commonly used for large animal rescues.

A stop was called at 12:46pm.

Thank you to the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service crew from Harleston for their support.

Update (5:43pm 6/5/26)

This incident was closed at 1:55pm.

The horse's name is Buddy, and he was assisted by a vet from Chapelfield Veterinary Partnership in Brook.

Thank you to the owners' neighbours who allowed firefighters to cut back trees on their property in order to gain access to their pool, in which Buddy had taken a dip.
