Two crews from Bury St Edmunds and one from Ixworth were mobilised in the early hours of the morning to attend a domestic fire in a cottage on Summer Road, Walsham Le Willows.

Upon arrival, the fire was believed to have been extinguished, and the owner was outside the property. However, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, entered the property and used a hose reel jet to dampen down. A thermal imaging camera was then used to check for hot spots and positive pressure ventilation was used to clear residual smoke.

The most likely cause of the fire was the ignition of materials that were drying next to the stove.

The incident was stopped at 5:06am and closed at 5:47am.
