Crews are on scene at the River Stour to rescue a large cow

Crews have been mobilised to rescue a cow that is stuck in mud and reeds in the River Stour in Sudbury. 

An advanced rescue team is in attendance with a boat, and an all-terrain Unimog from Princes Street is also on scene. This is in addition to two appliances from Sudbury, one from Long Melford, and a rescue tender from Princes Street. 

A vet is travelling from Stowe Veterinary Group in Newmarket to monitor the cow during the rescue and crews are trying to locate the farmer. 

A rescue plan is currently being formulated, with input from a Safety Officer. 

Update (3:40pm 9.6.26)

A vet and the owner are now on scene. The owner has taken responsibility for the animal's removal so no further action by the Fire Service. 

Stop message given at 3:28pm. 

Safety advice form completed and handed to owner.
