Residents can expect to see upgraded lighting at Albion Wharf, extending to Neptune Marina Apartments and Anchor Street Apartments. The upgrades will include 25 new street lighting columns with contemporary low energy LED lanterns, all finished in black.
The LED lanterns can be remotely monitored and controlled by the county’s central management system and dimmed at pre-determined times to maximise energy savings, whilst ensuring the right light is in the right place, at the right times. The columns have a 25-year design life, whilst the lanterns have a full 12-year guarantee against failure and meet British and European requirements.
The project has been made possible through the Ipswich Investment Fund, which was established following recommendations from the Ipswich Policy Development Panel (PDP).
Suffolk County Council’s Cabinet made available £2 million to support the delivery of projects across the town, following engagement with a wide range of local partners and stakeholders.
These recommendations include boosting employment opportunities for young people, working with partners to develop the town’s arts, culture and leisure offer and enhancing sustainable travel options, on a project specific basis.
This funding would be allocated to projects to be delivered as appropriate.
Councillor Paul West, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for Ipswich, operational highways and flooding, said:
“The first project from our Ipswich Investment Fund is taking shape, and I look forward to seeing the benefits this project will bring to the town.
“One of the recommendations from the joint Policy Development Panel was to seek out opportunities to improve the look and feel of neighbourhoods and the town centre by creating better lit areas, so I am glad we have been able to do this in a key area accessed by many residents and visitors.
“Our driving force behind this plan have focussed on the council’s key objectives to improve the health and wellbeing of our residents and strengthen our local economy.
“There are a number of other projects which are in development and I look forward to sharing these with the community once they take shape.”
