Suffolk’s Safer Stronger Communities Board supports Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week

National Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Awareness Week runs between 18th -24th July.
Published: 15 Jul 2022

The week will bring together people and organisations from across the country to make a stand and work together to make communities safer.

Anti-social behaviour is a broad term used to describe the day-to-day incidents of crime, nuisance and disorder including rowdy and noisy behaviour in otherwise quiet neighbourhoods, noise from homes and gardens and vehicle related nuisance. The responsibility for dealing with anti-social behaviour is shared between several agencies, including the police, Local Authorities, and housing providers.

The Suffolk Safer Stronger Communities Board will use the awareness week as an opportunity to focus on the impact of anti-social behaviour on young people, and the importance engaging with the wider public about their vital role in tackling Anti-Social Behaviour. The Suffolk Safer Stronger Communities Board consists senior elected members and officers, from a range of organisations including County, District and Borough councils, Suffolk Police, Police and Crime Commissioner, Community Safety Partnerships and Clinical Commissioning Groups.

Cllr Bobby Bennett, Cabinet Member for Equality and Communities and Chair of the Safer Stronger Communities Board, said:

We know anti-social behaviour can have a devastating impact on its victims and the wider community and people deserve to feel safe where they live. That is why the Safer Stronger Communities Board continues to prioritise tackling Anti-Social Behaviour across Suffolk.

Anti-social Behaviour can leave people feeling angry and frightened. According to the YouGov Research, 33% of people said that Anti-Social Behaviour has got worse in their area compared with 3 years ago and 94% said they had never heard of The Community Trigger, which gives people the right to request a multiagency review of their case if they feel their complaints about Anti-social Behaviour have not been dealt with. That’s why as part of the week Suffolk will be hosting a range of activities including a joint social media campaign using the local hashtag #SuffolkASB to raise public knowledge of the powers to tackle Anti-social Behaviour and the role they can play.

Local councils and police will be hosting a range of events where communities can find out more about Anti-Social Behaviour and what is being done locally to tackle it and support victims. Activity taking place across the week includes:
