Suffolk County Council has been working closely in partnership with East Suffolk Council, health colleagues, and other partners following the announcement this week that Access Community Trust closed its services on Wednesday 25th February.
Access Community Trust provided a wide range of services on behalf of multiple organisations across Lowestoft and the wider area, the majority of which were housing‑related. Suffolk County Council’s Adult Social Care team commissions a day service provision that supported a small number of people, as well as a housing‑related support service for another small number of people to help them maintain their independence.
Since the news emerged on Wednesday, teams across Adult Social Care and Children’s Services have been working directly on site with people and families to help them understand what has happened, provide reassurance, and ensure that appropriate support continues while alternative service provision is explored. This is a complex situation, and conversations with the Trust and its insolvency advisors are ongoing. We are committed to keeping residents and families fully informed as we make progress.
We know that this is an extremely difficult time for the staff of Access Community Trust, many of whom are now facing job losses and financial uncertainty. We would like to thank those staff who have continued to come to work and support people during this period for their professionalism and commitment.
Suffolk County Council remains committed to working closely with all partners involved to ensure that people who need care and support continue to receive it during this challenging time.
