Restorative justice

Restorative Justice allows for communication between those affected by a crime and those responsible for the crime.

The aim is to help everyone who is affected by the crime to have a role in repairing harm and identifying positive ways forward.

A member of the Suffolk Youth Justice Service (SYJS) will contact the victim and child or young person separately to decide how best to communicate. Communication could include a letter of explanation or a direct meeting.

Throughout the process support is given to the victim and the child or young person. The SYJS will act as a mediator and make all the necessary arrangements.

Restorative Justice helps children and young people to understand the real impact of their behaviour on others.
