Members of the Building Growth Skills Network (BGSN) for Norfolk and Suffolk – Grow Action Group recently met to discuss the construction skills challenges facing our region and to highlight the support available to local businesses and individuals seeking to upskill and build strong careers in construction. Emma Taylor, Director of Business Development and Major Projects at Suffolk New College, explains that with a growing number of young people enrolling in regional construction courses, colleges are eager to connect with businesses looking to recruit fresh talent or develop the skills of their existing workforce.
With substantial funding available through CITB and government initiatives, now is an ideal time for businesses to invest in training that will strengthen their teams and enhance competitiveness. With frequent shifts in the political landscape, navigating skills support can feel challenging for local businesses. Emma Taylor, Director of Business Development and Major Projects at Suffolk New College, reassures businesses that they don’t need to keep up with every policy change. Instead, they can rely on Building Growth Skills Network (BGSN) partners - including CITB, the Chamber of Commerce, Norfolk and Suffolk County Councils, and local training providers - to simplify access to skills support.
As Emma puts it, 'our job is to hide the wiring' and make it easy for businesses to tap into the resources they need. For more information, please contact your local CITB advisor.
