Lorry fire on A14 eastbound

Firefighters were called to an incident on the A14 eastbound, when the cab of a heavy goods vehicle caught fire between junctions 44 and 45. 

Fire crews from three stations - Bury St Edmunds, Ixworth and Elmswell - arrived to find the cab fully alight. The lorry was carrying scrap metal.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels, thermal imaging cameras and a fog lance to bring the blaze under control.

A stop to the incident was called at 7.42pm. However, Highways teams were dispatched to assess damage to the road surface. 

There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
