Suffolk County Council reviews its fees on an annual basis. Please make sure you read through the application form to understand the current fees and conditions before you apply as these fees are generally non-refundable.
Applications require a minimum of 10 weeks to be processed prior to installation. A licence payment is required for each application.
Your application may be rejected if the proposed site is considered to be potentially dangerous to the public.
You'll need an annual licence before you attach or hang anything onto a streetlight column or install electrical apparatus on or over a public highway maintained by us whether temporary or permanent:
For Neighbourhood Watch, No cold calling zone or other authorised signage please see our Traffic Signs page.
Contact National Highways on 0300 123 5000 if you want to apply for a licence on a trunk road.
The Street Light Attachments or Electrical Installations licence fee is £180.00.
It is the licensee’s responsibility to pay for the electricity used for the duration of the licence if electricity will be being drawn from the columns.
The licensee should arrange this with their energy company by getting an Unmetered Supplies Operator (UMSO) agreement and Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN) details (we will ask for proof of this when we receive an application form).
Suffolk County Council Street Lighting offers to liaise with and make payments on behalf of the Town/Parish. This would be charged at +10%. Our Street lighting team would need to know the total wattage of the decorations drawn from each column, and the hours they will be in operation. This would be invoiced annually.
