Qualifications needed to get into teaching

See what qualifications you need to get in school, or what A levels are needed when you leave school to get into teaching in Suffolk.

You'll need:

  • C grades/level 4 or above in your GCSE Maths, English and Science to become a primary school teacher
  • an honours degree at 2:2 or above

If you’re interested in teaching in a secondary school and want to teach a certain subject, then check that your degree choice will support this.

You can also study for a Bachelor of Education (BEd), and complete your teacher training while gaining your degree.

Teacher's story: what inspired you to go into teaching?

"I decided that I wanted to get into teaching during high school, although my inspiration was sparked by my Year 4 teacher."
