Who manages libraries in Suffolk, what library services are available online and where you can go to learn more.

As of 1 June 2025, Suffolk Community Libraries will be managed by the Public Health & Communities team.

Suffolk Community Libraries employs around 400 people running 45 library branches, three mobile libraries and three pop-up libraries across Suffolk.

On top of the traditional book lending service, Suffolk Community Libraries has a range of other services including:

  • A community wellbeing service, providing drop-ins, reading lists and signposting to help people with their health and wellbeing
  • An extensive free eLibrary, including music, eBooks, eAudio books, eMagazines and newspapers
  • Free computer access and Wi-Fi in every library
  • Hundreds of activities including fun storytimes and singing for under-fives and social groups for older people - plus many more events and opportunities to have fun or learning something new
  • An Arts Council funded community arts programme promoting libraries as creative spaces

Online services

Many services are available online at the Suffolk Community Libraries website. For example, you can:

  • create a library account
  • search and reserve books and other items for collection at a library of your choice
  • access e-resources for research, study and leisure
  • book a computer
  • download eBooks, eAudio, online magazines and free music you can keep

Needs assessment for library services in Suffolk

This needs assessment sets out the context within which the library service is delivered, including its statutory duty and the needs of Suffolk's residents, individuals who work in the county and those who are engaged in full-time education within Suffolk.

The needs assessment provides data which can be used to ensure that the library services remain relevant, sustainable, and fit for the future. The current version was updated in March 2024.
