Any child under the age is 18 is eligible for NHS dental treatment, or up to the age of 19 if they are in full time education.

Poor oral health in a child can lead to cavities, periodontal disease and oral conditions associated with poor nutrition and poor dental hygiene. Dental neglect is a form of child maltreatment. Dental professionals will use their judgement to assess each case individually in the context of the child’s medical history and developmental stage, as well as factors such as access to dental treatment which is not always easily available.

When it comes to teething, all babies are different. Your baby will probably get their first tooth sometime during their first year.

Your Community Health team member will give you a dental pack during your child's routine one-year development review.

If you have any concerns regarding your baby's teething and dental health, please contact your Community Health team for advice or attend one of the drop-in Child Health Clinics across the county delivered at the Family Hub buildings.
