Trauma Informed Care and Trauma Responsive Practice

Our approach to trauma-informed care, including resources and what we offer to support settings and services in relation to trauma responsive practice.

The psychology and therapeutic services have collaborated to create a trauma position statement which includes definitions of trauma-informed care, our position in relation to trauma-informed care and how we integrate these principles into the work we do.

Please download our position statement below.

The P&TS also offer a range of opportunities to education settings and other services who are interested in trauma-informed care and who would like further advice and support. The list below gives examples of these opportunities, however our offer in this area is ever increasing and we can be responsive to individual circumstances.

  • Trauma-informed supervision for staff. We can facilitate reflective supervision spaces utilising trauma-informed principles for adults and/or education staff. We have psychologists who have accessed the trauma informed schools UK (TISUK) supervisors training and can offer this to ensure ongoing maintenance of status.
  • Training, CPD and knowledge building. We are able to offer a variety of attachment informed and trauma-aware training opportunities, suited to your individual needs are circumstances.
  • Trauma Aware Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) top-up course. This 2-day programme aims to increase knowledge and confidence for ELSAs who want to work utilising trauma-aware approaches. At the moment this runs once a year and can be booked via Suffolk CPD.
  • Consultation for individual children or whole-school approaches to trauma-informed care.
  • Organisational support. We can support services and settings in their goal to become trauma-aware and trauma-responsive. We can do this through a package of training, support to examine policies and procedure, imbedding of reflective supervision, and more. If you are interested in this, please get in contact with the P&TS to discuss.
  • Guidance is available to support settings in thinking about trauma-responsive practice and how to imbed some of these principles. Please see a link to download this below.
