Suffolk Supports Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week

Suffolk’s Safer Stronger Communities Board has joined a national campaign to raise awareness of Anti-Social Behaviour during a week of action in July.
Published: 30 Jun 2023

National Anti-Social Behaviour Awareness Week runs between 03-09 July and aims to encourage people and communities to make a stand against ASB, work together to make communities safer and highlight ways to take action by those experiencing it.

Anti-social behaviour is a broad term used to describe the day-to-day incidents of crime, nuisance and disorder including rowdy and noisy behaviour in otherwise quiet neighbourhoods, noise from homes and gardens and vehicle related nuisance. The responsibility for dealing with anti-social behaviour is shared between a number of agencies, including Suffolk Police, Local Authorities and housing providers.

YouGov Research shows that almost 1/7 people have been forced to consider moving home because of the impact of Anti-Social Behaviour on their lives.

Suffolk County Council, Suffolk Police and District and Borough Councils have created newly agreed principles which demonstrate their commitment to delivering the best possible outcomes to victims of ASB. The principles can be viewed at: https://www.suffolk.gov.uk/community-and-safety/communities/community-safety/anti-social-behaviour/anti-social-behaviour-principles

We know that anti-social behaviour can have a devastating impact on individuals and communities and can leave people feeling angry and frightened. Here in Suffolk, we are committed to reducing the negative impact Anti-Social Behaviour has on our communities. People deserve to feel safe where they live. That is why Suffolk County Council, and the Safer Stronger Communities Board continue to prioritise tackling Anti-Social Behaviour across Suffolk.

Suffolk Constabulary recognises the impact Anti Social Behaviour can have on individuals and the wider community which is why, with support from our partners we are committed to tackling it throughout the year. We want our communities to feel safe and confident to report any issues. “As part of the National ASB Awareness Week officers will be policing hotspot areas and working with partners on proactive ASB operations. The week also provides an ideal opportunity to raises awareness of Suffolk’s ‘Anti-Social Principles’ which have been adopted by all agencies involved in tackling ASB across the county and provides a guide and commitment as to how we alongside partner agencies and services will continue to seek the best possible outcomes for victims of ASB in Suffolk.
County Policing Commander Alice Scott
Everyone living and working in Suffolk has the right to feel secure in their community and we have a joint responsibility to tackle the scourge of anti-social behaviour in the county. We know that anti-social behaviour is a real concern for many of our residents which is why we need to work together to protect our communities and tackle ASB when and where it arises. I welcome this opportunity to highlight the county’s commitment to tackle this issue and provide the best possible outcomes to victims of ASB in Suffolk.
Suffolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Tim Passmore
