Scaffold or hoarding licence

How to apply for any scaffold or hoarding on a public road, pavement, or verge.

Suffolk County Council reviews its fees on an annual basis. Please make sure you read through the application form to understand the current fees and conditions before you apply as these fees are generally non-refundable. Applications require 10 working days notice to be processed.

Before you apply

Your application may be rejected if the proposed site is considered to be potentially dangerous to the public.

Scaffold licences are:

  • only issued to scaffolding companies with qualified scaffolders
  • not issued to individuals

 To obtain a scaffolding licence you will need a copy of the:

  • up-to-date accreditation for the on site erector
  • company's public liability insurance with an insured sum of no less than £5,000,000. We reserve the right to increase this threshold for locations needing extra cover
