If you want to work in or place traffic management in a highway maintained by Suffolk County Council, you must book road space using either:
Section 50 Streetworks Licence application form (PDF, 1.9KB) for the installation of private structures under the highway.
TMA Road Space Booking Form (Word, 83KB) for booking road space for all works in the highway.
Section 50 Notice of Works form
To help us process your licence as quickly as possible please ensure that all sections of the application form have been completed in full and that the ‘Owner’ of the apparatus as well as the ‘Contractor’ has signed ‘Section 5’.

Please also submit with your application:
- location plan clearly showing the exact area of works
- copy of the Supervisors ‘Street Works Qualification Card’ – both front and back
- copy of the Operative ‘Street Works Qualification Card’ – both front and back
- copy of Contractors ‘Public Liability Insurance’ - minimum cover of £5,000,000

Once we have received your fully completed application and it has been approved by the Network Inspector, a start date can then be agreed.
Section 50 charging fees
There is a standard one off charge of £455 per licence to cover administration and inspection costs.
Any works exceeding 200 metres incur a further inspection charge of £200 per 200 metres up to 600 metres and then £500 per 200 metres over 600 metres in length.
Section 50 licence for apparatus placed in the highway (NRSWA S50)
For apparatus (such as water supply) being placed in the highway by a contractor, which is maintained by the owner of the apparatus and not a utility company.
When entering your S50 reference number, please add 00 before the given 5 digit number. For example, NRSWA-S50-0011111.
We recommend you do not use Internet Explorer to access our payment system, as you may experience more issues compared to other web browsers.

or by cheque payable to "Suffolk County Council" and sent with the application form.
