Junction improvements on Westgate Street, Bury St Edmunds

These improvements will ease congestion through Bury St Edmunds and create a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists.

Suffolk Highways will be carrying out improvements on the junction of Cullum Road, Parkway, Out Westgate and Westgate Street, Bury St Edmunds.

The junction improvements will involve:

  • replacing the existing double mini roundabout with a single roundabout
  • installing a new footpath and pedestrian crossing, with more space for cyclists to cross safely alongside pedestrians
  • upgrading the street lighting and traffic signals
  • converting the existing puffin crossing (signalled) in Westgate Street to a toucan crossing

Dates and timescales 

The works will be carried out in two phases: day time working and night time working.

Dates Monday 5 June 2017 to Friday 25 August 2017
Locations Westgate Street, A1302 Parkway and Cullum Road, Bury St Edmunds
Working times Day time: 7am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday

Following the junction improvement works we will resurface an reline part of Parkway, Cullum Road and Westgate Street including the new roundabout. This work will take place overnight to limit disruption during the day.
