The British Firefighter Challenge will take place on 27 and 28 July at The Arc Shopping Centre in Bury St Edmunds, pushing firefighters to their limits, providing entertainment for spectators and raising funds for the Firefighters Charity.

The event is free to attend.

Families and children are invited to kickstart the summer holidays with this Fire and Rescue Service spectacular. As well as watching the firefighters compete in challenges, visitors are invited to drop into the new mobile education centre, to meet firefighters, try on some equipment, and pick up some freebies.

20 firefighters from Suffolk will be competing, including Chief Fire Officer, Mark Hardingham, who said:

“Suffolk is honoured to be hosting this prestigious event, I’m sure the centre of Bury St Edmunds will not have seen anything like it! The challenge itself is going to be really tough, but we’re hoping to do Suffolk proud.”

Councillor Richard Rout, Cabinet Member for Environment and Public Protection for Suffolk County Council, said:

“We’re excited to meet and chat with all the visitors. With the start of the school holidays, we hope to see lots of families enjoying the event. We might even inspire the next generation of young firefighters!”

The Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service has had a busy summer, especially with the recent spate of field fires. But there is also a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes, such as education visits to schools, providing fire safety guidance for businesses and making home visits with partner authorities.

Suffolk’s firefighters look forward to meeting you at The Arc Shopping Centre in Bury St Edmunds on 27 and 28 July 2018, events start at 10am. For more information, visit www.britishfirefighterchallenge.co.uk
