There will be a public engagement event taking place in Ipswich, showcasing plans for a key project in the town.

There is no need to book a place for this event in advance, anyone who is interested in finding out more about the planned work can simply come along and speak to the team.

On Wednesday 23 May 2018, residents are invited to come and look at plans for improving the crossing points around the Felixstowe Road / Bixley Road area.

The event is taking place at St Augustine’s Church, located on Bucklesham Road, IP3 8TJ. The drop-in event is open between 2pm to 7pm.

The project will see the upgrading of two existing crossings (located outside KFC and on Bixley Road). A new Toucan Crossing will be installed close to Sainsbury’s for pedestrian access,

The marking of an additional carriage lane from Sainsbury’s will also be developed to help traffic flow going towards the town centre. There are also plans for new street lighting, road resurfacing and a new bus shelter. Work will begin during the evening of Monday 4 June, overnight for five nights to remove traffic islands. Road dressing will then take place, followed by the planned improvements.

Suffolk County Council’s Cabinet Member for Ipswich, Councillor Paul West said:

“The planned work will improve pedestrian access to nearby shops in this part of town. The work to provide an additional traffic lane on Felixstowe Road from Ransomes Way to St Augustine’s roundabout for ‘town bound’ access will help people exiting Sainsbury’s with their shopping and the new street lighting and bus shelter will improve the area for those who choose to use public transport and walk.

“I look forward to meeting local residents at the engagement event on Wednesday to hear their thoughts on this planned work as we continue to undertake key projects to improve Ipswich for all residents and visitors.”
