Cabinet paper response: Speech, Language, Communication Services – a new model that is fair for everyone

Response from Councillor Gordon Jones, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education and Skills at Suffolk County Council.

Councillor Gordon Jones, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education and Skills at Suffolk County Council said:

“We want our services to be fit for purpose now and support the development of children’s speech, language and communication needs in the future.

“A great deal of work has been carried out to review and re-design our services, including the public consultation which has provided the local community the opportunity to give us their views.

“We have listened to and taken onboard feedback from service users and their families, members of the public and our partners and although we do need to review our services to accommodate the increase in demand, we also need to consider how changes to the support services will impact on Suffolk’s children with additional needs.

“It is about finding a balance to ensure that every child in Suffolk receives the support they need, and I believe the recommendations do that.

“Any period of change can cause uncertainly and a degree of anxiety and I would like to thank all the families who have engaged with us through this process.”
