With Bike Week (8–14 June) celebrating the benefits of cycling for healthier, happier lives, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is encouraging residents to get involved in a local event that combines fitness, fundraising, and community spirit.

The popular Suffolk Fire Ride returns on Sunday 5 July 2026, inviting cyclists of all abilities to take part and raise vital funds for the Fire Fighters Charity, which provides essential physical, mental, and social wellbeing support to those who work in fire and rescue services and their families.

Participants, who are encouraged to raise funds through platforms such as JustGiving, can choose between two routes:

  • 60km route

  • 100km route

Both routes are fully signposted and include rest stops and refreshments along the way.

Cyclists can register online at www.suffolkfireride.co.uk.

  • Advance entry: £25 per adult, £20 for riders aged 17 and under (must be accompanied by an adult)

Supporting firefighter wellbeing

Ed Crawford, Firefighter at Bury St Edmunds Fire Station and Fire Fighters Charity Co-ordinator for SFRS, said:

“The Suffolk Fire Ride is a well-organised and enjoyable community event that enables residents to support those who are committed to protecting them from harm.

“While being a firefighter is incredibly rewarding, it can take a toll on your physical and mental health. The Fire Fighters Charity is therefore a lifeline for many, including firefighters’ families, who live with the knowledge that their loved ones face life-threatening situations to protect others.

“Without fundraising events like this, the charity would cease to exist.”
