Community funding

Find out how to plan a project and what you need to do before you start applying for external funding.

If you’ve got a great idea for your community or for your existing group or charity, project development helps you focus the mind even before you get to seeing if someone will fund your idea or project.

The Just Act (Community Development Foundation) has 10 steps for community project development:

  1. Find out what’s already happening
  2. Involve others
  3. Develop a plan of action
  4. Create an organisation
  5. Promote your project
  6. Find funding and support
  7. Learn new skills
  8. Show the impact of your project
  9. Connect with others
  10. Plan for the future

Once you've done some development work contact Community Action Suffolk and link to the Community Field Officer and Community Field Volunteering Officer for your area. They’ll be able to help, especially around policies and practices to ensure the service you aim to provide is fit for purpose.
