Accessing the databases

To access the electronic journals you'll need an Athens username and password. You can either:

  1. Register to Open Athens with a username and password
  2. Login to the NICE Evidence if you are already registered

These resources have been purchased by the National Core Content project, which is funded by the NHS Strategic Health Authorities and are available to all NHS staff in England and the wider NHS family. 

Cochrane Library

The Cochrane Library is considered to be the best single source of reliable evidence about the effects of health care. It’s internationally respected as providing the gold standard in "what works and what doesn't", used by researchers and clinicians worldwide, by patients and their families.

It also provides the evidence base for many people involved in the preparation of health guidelines.

National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Evidence

Access an A to Z list of full text electronic journals available with your Athens username and password.

Free Medical Journals

The Free Medical Journals website has free access to medical journals online.
